The Neural DSP Quad Cortex gives you factory amp models plus Neural Capture (profile your own amp). Tone comes from the model/capture you pick and the cab or IR after it — not from fixed knobs. Here is how to approach each genre.
Model or Capture first. Decide between a <b>factory amp model</b> (huge library, tweakable) and a <b>Neural Capture</b> of a real amp (very accurate, less tweakable). For most players a factory model is the fastest, most flexible start.
Build the grid. A dependable chain: <b>Gate → Overdrive (optional) → Amp → Cab/IR → EQ → Delay → Reverb</b>. The QC grid lets you run stereo and parallel paths, but start simple with one row.
Metal / high-gain. Pick a modern high-gain model (a 5150/6505 or Rectifier-style). Gain around 5–7 on the model, tighten with an overdrive block (low drive, level up) in front, scoop the mids slightly, and add a gate. Choose a 4x12 V30 cab or a metal IR and high-cut around 8 kHz.
Rock / hard rock. A Plexi or JCM-style model, gain 5–6, mids up, a British 4x12 cab. Push it with a light boost for solos.
Clean and blues. A Fender Twin/Deluxe-style model. Low gain for sparkle (clean) or edge-of-breakup with a drive block (blues). A 2x12 or 1x12 cab, light reverb.
Use the cab/IR and global EQ. As with any modeler, the cab is half the tone. Try the stock cabs, then quality IRs; a global high-cut and low-cut clean up fizz and mud. Save per-genre presets so you can switch fast live.
