Choose the preamp model. The preamp is the core sound: <b>Clean/JTM</b> for cleans, <b>Plexi</b> for classic rock, <b>JCM800</b> for hard rock, <b>JVM OD</b> for high gain and metal.
Clean. Clean or JTM preamp. Gain low, Bass 5, Middle 6, Treble 6, add reverb. Warm Marshall clean.
Blues / classic rock. Plexi preamp at edge of breakup. Gain 4–5, mids up, light reverb — that classic cranked-Marshall bark.
Rock / hard rock. JCM800 preamp. Gain 5–6, Bass 5, Middle 6, Treble 6, a touch of delay.
Metal. JVM OD or high-gain preamp. Gain 7–8, Bass 6, Middle 5, Treble 6, add a noise gate.
